The Standing Bear Community is led by Chief Bill Bertschy and supported by a strong circle of community members who help carry the work, teachings, and responsibilities of the Lodge. Our ceremonies are hosted mainly in Enoch, Alberta and Pigeon Lake, Alberta.
We are a safe and welcoming space for people of all ages, races, backgrounds, and life circumstances to come together in learning, healing, and connection. Through land-based knowledge and traditional Indigenous teachings and practices, we gather as a collective to support one another and the Lodge.
We regularly host ceremonies that are open to community members and those who are called to learn in a respectful way.
Our Sweat Lodge Ceremonies are held regularly and are open to all. The Sweat Lodge is a sacred space for prayer, reflection, cleansing, and renewal. It offers an opportunity to release what no longer serves you, reconnect with yourself and Creator, and experience healing through traditional ceremony in a supportive community setting.
Our annual Vision Quest Ceremony is a sacred rite of passage and personal spiritual journey. It is a time for deep reflection, prayer, fasting, and connection to the land. Participants enter this ceremony seeking clarity, guidance, healing, and a stronger understanding of their path and purpose.
Our annual Ghost Dance Ceremony is a time of prayer, remembrance, spiritual connection, and collective healing. It brings community together in a sacred way to honor ancestors, strengthen identity, and renew the spirit through traditional practice and shared intention.

Standing Bear Community is a place to learn, serve, and grow together. Whether you are helping tend the fire, supporting the kitchen, caring for the Community, building the Lodge, or simply arriving with an open heart and good intentions, your presence matters.
We welcome those who come with respect, humility, and a willingness to learn.
